The hardest site for 13... our own

Wednesday July 28, 2010

Every agency has told us that your own site is the hardest one to do. And more importantly the hardest one to finish. Every agency is right!

It’s really difficult to say why… the obvious challenges of paid work coming first and clients needing the attention they deserve are definitely a factor. But there is more to it. We’re privileged in that we think we have a great logo identity and brand that no-one internally has questioned. But then once website starts to be a discussion, the blank canvas is so difficult, and actually makes us realise how difficult it is to be a client.

Our main issue has been the sporting analogy. Trying to fit all the influences of sport into a design is nigh on impossible to finalise. The live event versus the Tv broadcast, the intense commercial excitement of a formula 1 or premiership game versus a sponsor free minimal event… the options are vast, and like sport itself – opinions change.

So the result of our long long website build has been to create a short introduction to ourselves , our services and our ambitions. It’s difficult to stop making sporting puns, so you will find them in the text, but we hope we’ve been subtle about it. From a design perspective we wanted a different colour palette, but the energy lines and swirls have been in every draft from the start. And we’re quite happy. We want something that we can also look at regularly cos we’re the ones who are going to be keeping this thing alive with updates.

So thanks for visiting, and I’ll be back soon with regular, sport based opinion and news that more often than not will involve us.

Cheers

Anthony
